Crailtap Distribution
Graphic + Production Designer
From 2017–2018, I served as an in-house graphic designer for four brands including Girl, Chocolate, Royal and the Crailtap brand. The primary focus of my role initially was to create assets, maintain, and strategize for the brands’ self-hosted web presence, but i transitioned into I regularly supporting print projects ranging from graphics applied to apparel and various goods, packaging, and in-person events and launches. As an proud memeber of the Art Dump alumni, these were some of the most fun and labor intensive professional projects I’ve been lucky to be a part of.
Board Design
Select skateboard deck designs from my time at Crailtap, featuring seasonal in-line colorways, palettes, and material-ups that I was tasked with leading, alongside team rider clips of those very boards in action—many of which were featured in Girl’s infamously recognized video projects over the years. Also included are original hand-drawn illustrations I created to reflect rider-specific personality traits, inside jokes, and regional references from their upbringings, all contributing to what makes each rider unique.
Rainbow Dome Capsule
Combing through the Crailtap graphics archive, I came across this vintage inspired Crailtap football helmet illustration and wanted to breathe new life into it. A few key added elements later, the Rainbow Dome was born. For a brand that never takes itself too seriously, rooted in a subculture with an anti-jock mentality, it was the perfect oxymoron. But, how could I push it further? My imagination took over, and I remembered I had picked up a children’s play football helmet from a thrift store years prior. And just like that, the Rainbow Dome graphic paired with my own personal craftsmanship, became a coveted tangible and functional piece of (f)art!
To make the Rainbow Dome an wearable brain bucket, I deconstructed a thrifted toy football helmet, repainted it, and reassembled it with new hardware. Next, I printed the rainbow stripe on a piece of white vinyl on my own personal inject printer. I didn’t have access to a vinyl plotter, and the deadline for assets was tight. So, I took a good ol’ X-acto knife and put my hands to work to cut the cloud and goat decals, and carefully applied them with symmetry by using an analog tool, otherwise known as my eyes. Upon completion, my Art Dump cohorts jumped in and created some fun and lighthearted digital deliverables that debuted just before Superbowl Sunday!
The D.I.Y. approach translated into some fun marketing animations and a video!
Crailtap D.I.Y. Pro Model
It’s part of almost every young skateboards dream, to ‘go pro’ one day. While the chosen ones are gifted the talents to have their name on a board, the rest of us had to let the dream go… until now! Taking Crailtap’s iconic goat and cloud branding, along with their infamous brand font, I wanted to make the dream a reality for those whose lives took a different path, but still live the dream. With Crailtap’s appreciation for Do-It-Yourself culture and society’s unsung heroes, the D.I.Y. Pro Model made it possible for all the local rippers to finally get their name on a board.
Apparel Design
Select graphics and designs for apparel and product capsules. Some projects called for hand-drawn illustrations while others called for custom top-to-bottom design work for pre-existing blank silhouettes. As shown, some of these graphics were offered across multiple product ranges that were marketed as capsule collections.
Accessories Design
Select accessories designs crafted for lifestyle functionality while showcasing Crailtap’s ironic and pun filled sense of humor. These projects were always super fun and usually stemmed from random imaginative ideas that came to life because… well… why not? These projects also provided a platform to add some bonus easter eggs with the ability to design the packaging alongside the actual product.
